As networks are getting more complex and expensive to manage, service providers are looking at ways and means to reduce their recurring operational expenditure (OPEX) by minimizing truck rolls and manual subscriber-specific features and, effectively, automating the service provisioning functionality. As an extension of the ZMS, EZ Touch provides ZMS element and network management capabilities, which have been mainly focused on core network elements like the MXK™ and MALC™, to the edge of the network where it cost-effectively manages and provisions the subscriber-facing features of Zhone-manufactured CPEs and ONTs. With the introduction of the Zhone EZ Touch Provisioning, Zhone has extended element and network management to the network edge and customer-facing CPEs & ONTs. This effectively enables service providers to remotely configure, provision and manage either a single device or multiple devices concurrently in a manual or automated fashion. Service providers benefit tremendously from a reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) owing primarily to the recurring OPEX savings derived from auto-provisioning, remote configuration and a host of other features enabled by the EZ Touch. Zhone EZ Touch Provisioning has been designed to effect tremendous TCO benefits for the service provider. Features like automatic control of software version on all deployed CPEs and ONTs, automatic configuration updates, elimination of the need to manage and provision CPEs and ONTs individually via WebUI or Telnet, extended visibility from ZMS to provision specific configuration parameters of the ONTs, elimination of truck rolls for troubleshooting, etc. are significant features that reduce recurring OPEX for the service provider. Optional interface via ZMS/OSS gateway to the service provider to create web portals from which their customers can change their CPE/ONT configurations remotely (e.g. service upgrade, bandwidth increase, quality of service enhancement, etc.) are value-added functionality to increase customer retention and reduce churn. Existing ZMS customers benefit immensely as Zhone will allow for a seamless software upgrade while using their existing management server hardware. |
